The Mascarenes generally eat spicy food ("cari poule" curry is very popular) which is served with rice or roti (a flat Indian bread), "mine-frit" (Chinese fried noodles) and "niouk nien" (dumplings) are famous for all and readily bought by the Mauritian community in restaurants or on the sidewalks of main streets. 'Alouda' (a milk-based drink with basil seeds) and 'dholl puri' considered to be the favorite. Hotels and restaurants offer a normal range of foods; Seafood is a specialty in many places including Chinese, Indian and Creole meals. European style food is also available
