Geographic

Port Louis (has a population of about 140 000) capital of Republic of Mauritius. Mauritius neighbor islands are Reunion and Rodrigues. Mauritius is found in the Indian Ocean and its location is 20°17S 57°33E approximately 2,000 km from Durban, 1800 km from Mombassa, 6,000 km from Perth and 4700 km from Bombay. Mauritius is located 855 Km to the east of Madagascar and 1800 Km to the east from the African Continent. Mauritius belongs to the African Continent. Mauritius is divided into nine districts:

2. Flacq
3. Grand Port
4. Moka
5. Pamplemousses
6. Plaines Wilhems
7. Port Louis
8. Rivière du Rempart
9. Savanne

In 2005 estimated population was 1,231,000, 790 sq mi (2,046 sq km), in the SW Indian Ocean. Mauritius also owns large areas of its surrounding seas, which is rich of fish resources. It is part of the Mascarenes Islands, c.500 mi (800 km) E of Madagascar. The island of Rodriguez and two groups of small islands, Agalega and Cargados Carajos, are dependencies of Mauritius. Mascarenes Islands are surrounded by coral reefs. Central plateau is ringed by mountains of volcanic origin, which rise to c.2, 700 ft (820 m) in the southwest. There time difference is GMT +4

 

Climate

Mauritius has a tropical, rainy climate.
Mauritius has a normal climate around the year. It has a nice tropical weather. In summer, from November till May, the weather is warm, shining and dry. The temperatures vary from 25°C till 33°C in coastal regions and on the high plateaus they have temperatures ranging from 20°C till 28°C.
In winter, from May till October, the weather is warm and humid with temperatures ranging 24°C in the coastal regions and 19°C on the high plateaus.
The water temperature of the sea reaches 27°C in summer and 22°C in winter.
In summers it sunshine at about 05:00 o'clock till 19:00 o'clock and in winter it’s about 06:00 o'clock till 17:30 o'clock.
